Welcome to The Reclamation Room (TRR), the place where stories are remembered, told, shaped, and reclaimed. Whether you’re a professional author, an aspiring poet, or an I’ve-never-even-owned-a-journal newbie, you belong here. The truth is we all have a story; our stories are our lives.
Writing isn’t just for writers. It’s for everyone. As humans, storytelling is in our DNA—it is the most powerful force we have in shaping and understanding our past, present, and future.
The mission of The Reclamation Room is to provide a space for expression, healing, and transformation through writing.
what we do.
We provide courses, mentorship, and community for writers. And by writers, we mean you. Because everyone has the capacity to write—and everyone can benefit from the process. Even if you never intend to publish an essay or have your name on a book jacket, the practice of writing can change your life.
who we are.
TRR was founded by Laura McKowen. Laura is one of the foremost voices in the modern recovery movement; having helped thousands of people reframe addiction and transform their lives through her writing, teaching, and speaking. A lifelong reader and secret-writer, she began writing publicly in 2013 through her struggle to get sober. It was writing more than anything else that saved her life, and it continues to shape her understanding and experience of the world.
The Reclamation Room was created as a way to make these practices accessible to the world.
